Family Reading: The President's Prescription

In his speech tonight, to Congress and the country, President Barack Obama said this:

". . . In the end, there is no program or policy that can substitute for a mother or father who will attend those parent conferences, or help with homework after dinner, or turn off the TV, put away the video games, and read to their child."

If you are a kid reading this post -- don't wait for your mom or dad to volunteer to read to you. Pick out a book and take it to them. Ask them to read to you. And, if you don't have a book in hand, come by the library and let us help you find one that you and your folks can enjoy together.

If you are a parent reading this post -- don't wait for your kids to ask -- invite them to sit down with you on the couch tonight to enjoy a book. It doesn't matter if your kids are two or twelve -- kids of all ages love to hear a story. And if you don't have a book to share, come by the library and let us help you find one.

There is nothing we love more than putting a good book into your hands!
