Saturday, December 29 is the birthday of Richard Atwater. Mr. Atwater is no longer with us but the book he co-wrote with his wife Florence continues to be a favorite of children to this day -- some seventy-four years after its original publication.
Inspired by Richard Byrd's first Antarctic expedition, the Atwaters wrote Mr. Popper's Penguins and received a Newbery Honor citation in 1939.
