Coretta Scott King Book Awards

On January 28, 2013 -- just in time for the celebration of African American Heritage Month -- the American Library Association announced the winners of the 2013 Coretta Scott King Book Awards.

The 2013 King Author Award was given to Andrea Davis Pinkney for Hand in Hand: Ten Black Men Who Changed History.  Bryan Collier received the King Illustrator Award for I, too, am America

Designed to commemorate the life and works of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and to honor Mrs. Coretta Scott King for her courage and determination to continue the work for peace, the Coretta Scott King Book Awards annually recognize outstanding books for young adults and children by African American authors and illustrators that reflect the African American experience.
