Celebrating the Work of Jerry Pinkney

The SAPL Kids' Electronic Bookshelf features works by author/illustrator Jerry Pinkney this December.  Mr. Pinkney is the recipient of numerous honors and awards, including the 2010 Caldecott Medal for The Lion and the Mouse.

Born in Philadelphia on December 22, 1939, his interest in drawing began very early in life.  Speaking of this interest he says, "at some point I realized I'd rather sit and draw than do almost anything else."  Fortunately for us, Mr. Pinkney has continued to draw all his life and now has over 100 books to his credit.  If you can't find his latest work, The Tortoise and the Hare, on the shelf at your branch -- put it on hold.  It is getting rave reviews and we are sure you'll love it!
