Rachel Carson: Biologist, Writer, Ecologist

Rachel Carson was born in 1907 and grew up in a time when few young women went to college and even fewer pursued careers in science.  But Rachel made up her mind to become a biologist.  She brought her love of nature and her gift for writing to her scientific work. The publication of Rachel's book Silent Spring in 1962 is considered by many to mark the birth of the environmental movement.
