Recommended Reading: Anatomy

Anatomy is the study of the structure of living things. Scientists that study anatomy might be interested in the circulation system of humans or the digestive system of jellyfish.

Author and illustrator Steve Jenkins offers a dramatic view of the skeletal system in his book Bones. This visually powerful and scientifically intriguing volume provides a head-to-toe look at both human and animal bones. Who knew bones could be so fascinating?

Doug Cushman is also an author/illustrator and he is also interested in bones -- but his interest is in imaginative stories rather than factual explorations. In Dirk Bones and the Mystery of the Mission Books, Cushman introduces beginning readers to a skeletal newspaper reporter who just happen to have a knack for solving mysteries. Who knew a skeleton could look so good in a trench coat?
