Recommended Reading: Indian Shoes

If you are looking for a good book to read during Native American Heritage Month, the SAPL Children's Librarians recommend Indian Shoes by Cynthia Leitich Smith.   This collection of inter-related stories about Ray Halfmoon and his grandpa is both heart-warming and laugh-out-loud funny.  Ray is a contemporary Seminole-Cherokee boy living in urban Chicago who often travels to rural Oklahoma to visit his extended family.

Cynthia Leitich Smith is a best-selling author with picture books, chapter books and YA novels to her credit.  She is a tribal member of the Muscgoee (Creek) tribe and she now lives in Austin.
