Lois Lowry


Lois Lowry is an award-winning author who has written over 30 books for children including both the Anastasia Krupnick and Gooney Bird Greene series.

In 1990, she received the Newbery Medal for Number the Stars, a work of historical fiction that describes one Danish family's efforts to save a young Jewish girl from the Nazis.

In 1994, Ms. Lowry won the Newbery Award for the second time. The Giver is set in a seemingly perfect future society -- but it is a society with a dark side. Young Jonas finds himself drawn into that darkness when he is assigned to apprentice with a mysterious old man.
