Ashley Bryan is an author, illustrator, and storyteller with more than 30 books to his credit. His vibrant illustrations highlight African and African-American folktales and spirituals. Mr. Bryan has won the Coretta Scott King Award for illustration twice—for Beat the Story Drum, Pum-Pum in 1981, and for Beautiful Blackbird in 2004. In 2009, he won the Laura Ingalls Wilder Medal for his substantial and lasting contribution to literature for children.
