Author and illustrator Jan Brett celebrates her birthday on December 1. Ms. Brett is a world traveler who has created over 30 books for children. She has used her visits to China, Scandanavia -- and even the Arctic -- as inspiration for her stories and pictures. She is best known for her elaborate borders which provide all sorts of details for young readers/listeners to discover.
Ms. Brett's website is filled with coloring sheets and activity pages that compliment her books. Be sure to take a look at the directions for her paper Christmas ornaments -- they would probably look great on your Christmas tree this year.
December's Electronic Book Shelf features just a few of Ms. Brett's terrific titles. You can find more in the library catalog and on the shelves at your branch.
