Winnie-the-Pooh is undoubtedly one of the best-loved bears in all of children's literature. His creator, A.A.Milne was born on January 18, 1882 and the first book featuring Pooh was published in 1926.
Christopher Robin, who shares the spotlight with Pooh in most of the books, was Milne's real life son. And his toys make up the cast of characters that inhabit the Hundred Acre Wood.
Visitors to the New York Public Library's Children's Center can see the original Piglet, Rabbit, Tigger and Pooh on display -- the real toys that Christopher Robin played with and that inspired Milne's stories and poems. But for those of us who won't be visiting NYC anytime soon -- there are wonderful Winnie-the Pooh books on the shelf here at the San Antonio Public Library to read and enjoy.
