Martin Luther King Day
All San Antonio Public Libraries will be closed on Monday, January 21 to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Like Mohandas Gandhi, Dr. King believed words and ideas could be more powerful tools for change than guns and violence. Dr. King was the leader of the Civil Rights Movement and in 1964 he received the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to combat racial inequality through nonviolent means.
To honor Dr. King, and to remember the struggle for civil rights, listen to his famous "I Have a Dream" speech that was delivered in August 1963 on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial during the March on Washington.
