Australian author and educator Mem Fox has a lovely section on her website on How to Read Aloud. Included among her tips are "The Ten Read-Aloud Commandments."
While all of her suggestions are spot on, I am particularly fond of #10: "Please read aloud every day, mums and dads, because you just love being with your child, not [just] because it’s the right thing to do."
Reading aloud with your child is loads of fun -- and you can find some terrific books by Mem Fox on the library shelves that lend themselves to lively and joyful sharing.
