New National Ambassador for Young People's Literature

Author Kate DiCamillo has been named the 2014 - 2015 National Ambassador for Young People's Literature by the Library of Congress.  Ms. DiCamillo is the fourth author to hold this post. She was preceeded by Walter Dean Myers (2012 - 2013), Katherine Paterson (2010 - 2011) and Jon Scieszka (2008 - 2009).

The primary responsibility of the Ambassador is to raise
national awareness of the importance of young people’s literature as it relates to lifelong literacy, education and the development and betterment of the lives of young people.

If you haven't read anything by Ms. DiCamillo lately, your friendly SAPL Children's Librarians recommend Bink and Golly and Because of Winn Dixie -- but we are sure you'll enjoy everything she has written!
