Joyce Sidman: Poet and Naturalist

Author Joyce Sidman has a wonderful way of combining poetry and science.  In her latest book, Winter Bees and Other Poems of the Cold, she pairs lyrical verses with solid information about tundra swans, snowflakes, honeybees and a variety of other animals and elements of the winter season.

Ms. Sidman is well known for creating hybrid books of this type. In 2011 she received a Newbery Honor citation for Dark Emperor and Other Poems of the Night.  That same year, Ubiquitous: Celebrating Nature's Survivors, was included in the American Library Association's Notable Books for Children list.
