National Ambassador for Young People's Literature

Graphic novelist Gene Luen Yang has been named the 2016-17 National Ambassador for Young People's Literature. Mr. Yang is the fourth author to be named to this prestigious post -- which was created to bring national attention to the importance of young people's literature.

As the author (and illustrator) of American Born Chinese, he was the first graphic novelist to win the Printz Award for excellence in young adult literature.  Mr. Yang is also the co-creator of a series of graphic novels based on the Nickelodeon cartoon Avatar: The Last Airbender.
