Independent Dames is a picture book history that gives brief information
about more than 80 women who had important roles during the American
Revolution. These women boycotted English tea, sewed uniforms, spied on the
enemy, and even fought in the war. Each double-page spread features a
rectangular frame with information about the Revolution, and two or three oval
frames with information about various independent dames. This fun book, written
by Laurie Halse Anderson and illustrated with colorful caricatures by MattFaulkner, is a great resource for elementary school students.
