Happy Birthday to Jean Craighead George!

Jean Craighead George turns 90 on July 2. Ninety! And she is still writing books.

Ms. George began her writing career as a White House reporter during Franklin Roosevelt's presidency. In 1959, she published My Side of the Mountain, which was named a Newbery Honor Book and in 1973 she won the Newbery Medal for Julie of the Wolves.

An author and a naturalist, Ms. George writes both fiction and non-fiction. Many of her books deal with animals and their native environments.

You can find a complete list of all the library's materials written by Ms. George as well as the movies and sound recordings that feature her books by doing an author search in the library catalog.
