Five
little toys—a pig with an umbrella, a bear with a kite, a dog on a sled, a
rabbit with stars, and an owl--sit in a window, watching clouds in the air, the
rain, the passing seasons. One day, a cat with patches joins them at the
window, and what happens next surprises the other toys. Kevin Henkes’ Waiting has been awarded a Caldecott Honor, a Geisel Honor, and has appeared on several
best book lists: Hornbook Fanfare, Kirkus Reviews Best of 2015, Publisher’s
Weekly Best Books, and School Library Journal Best Books. This lovely, sweet tale
has gentle pastel illustrations and is a wonderful story for toddler and
pre-school children.
